In Memory of Sid
From Susan, Bob, Samantha and Thomas
(Wei)
On November 26th, 2015, Sid had very
eloquently (as Sid could do so well) sent an email to us highlighting our past
"traditional" Thanksgiving celebration. Unfortunately all four
of us were not able to come down to Baltimore as we often did. Susan and
Thomas were not there so Sid sent an email to Susan saying the following "As
the evening wore on, I was tempted to try to offer a talk (of the kind you like
to give) about family, friends and love... so maybe next year we can give two
lectures or write a poem together. Who knows what brilliant ideas may be
born in 365 days!
Sid with all of his academic and
scholarly accomplishments truly valued family. He always found time to
talk about not only his interests but our interests too. In fact, he
almost always inquired about our interests first. Wine was always a topic
of particular interest at family celebrations. Over the past twenty-five
years that Bob and Susan have been married, he had given them various books on
wine helping them to form a sort of "collection". We all
enjoyed sampling wines on numerous occasions, eating together, drinking
together and laughing together. We all have great respect and admiration
for Sid; we also have great love for him as a brother-in-law and uncle.
When we raise our glasses of wine in celebrations to come, we will always
think about how much we miss him. There will always be toasts in memory
of Sid and a life well-lived.
